Bisphosphonates and Anti-Angiogenic Medications in Denture Wearers
A recent development in medications used in bone health or certain cancer treatments is the use of Bisphosphonates and anti-angiogenic medications.
These medications are taken orally or by injection and can have a serious impact on the construction phase of new dentures, maintenance procedures with dentures and the long term use of dentures.
The risk to denture wearers that are on, or have been on, these medications, is an increased risk of bone complication if ulceration of the gums or mucosa occurs. It is critical that you inform your dental prosthetist or dentist if you are on or have taken these medications in the past, so that they can keep you safe.
Please tell us if you have / have had medication or injections for osteoporosis.
