How to keep your dentures in perfect condition

Man smiling with teeth showing.

We know you want your dentures to be super comfortable. But, in fact, sometimes people are surprised to know that dentures need just as much care as your original teeth did. Daily gentle cleaning of your denture and a weekly soak provides you with longer comfort and durability of your denture. With a few simple steps you can keep your investment looking - and feeling - as good as new for years. Enjoy the oral care you deserve.

The foundation of the best oral care is the same for everyone: brush your teeth every day, cut down on sugary foods and drinks and visit your dental practitioner on a regular basis for check ups.

  1. Gentle clean daily: Gently does it! As with natural teeth, your prosthetic teeth will need to be cleaned of food residue and plaque on a daily basis. Use a soft denture brush, and non-abrasive denture cleaning paste to ensure the smooth and shiny surfaces of the denture acrylic resin won’t get scratched. Rinse carefully afterwards. You can also continue to massage and clean your gums daily with a soft toothbrush.

  2. Intensive care weekly: Soak your denture with warm water and a denture cleaning tablet, taking care to follow the instructions depending on the product you’re using. Rinse carefully afterwards.

  3. Annual check up: Check the function, comfort and retention of your denture with your dental professional every year. You can also have your denture professionally cleaned by your dental prosthetist. In some cases, dentures may need to be lined again on the gum surface to maintain a perfect fit.

  4. When you look after your teeth and gums, your whole body will benefit.
